Mold making & DFM

We cut tooling in-house with CNC engraving and polish the cavities by hand. That is why a design change does not sit in a subcontractor's queue for two weeks — but it also means the file you send decides how fast the whole project goes.

What files we can read

STEP (.step / .stp)Preferred. Exact geometry, no translation loss.
IGES (.iges / .igs)Fine when STEP is not available.
STL (.stl)Works for organic shapes; check the triangle density.
AI / PDFEnough for flat parts like labels and 2D charms.
Photos with a rulerEnough to quote, not enough to cut steel.

If you only have a photo and a dimension, we can quote but not commit to a tool. Send what you have and we will tell you what is missing before it costs you a week.

Six DFM points we check before cutting steel

Draft angle

At least 1–2° on vertical walls, or the part drags on demoulding.

Wall thickness

1.5–4 mm for compression moulding. Below 1.5 mm, LSR is the better process.

Undercuts

Possible, but each one adds a split line or a manual step. Cheap now, expensive later.

Corner radii

Sharp internal corners tear. A 0.5 mm radius is often enough.

Text and fine detail

Minimum 0.4 mm line width and 0.3 mm depth reads clearly in silicone.

Tolerance

±0.1 mm on moulded silicone is realistic; ±0.05 mm pushes you to LSR.

We send a written DFM note before tooling starts, usually within 2–5 working days of receiving a usable file. If there is nothing to flag, we say so — a clean DFM report is a real answer, not a form letter.

Mold ownership

You own the tool once the tooling fee is paid. We store it free for two years, will not run it for another customer, and will return or destroy it on written instruction if you move production.

Tooling cost depends on cavity count and complexity; a single-cavity compression mould for a 50 mm part is a different order of magnitude from a 40-key keypad tool. Send a drawing and the annual volume and we will quote both.

Send your spec, get a quote

Tell us what you need and how many. within 1 business day (GMT+8) — usually much sooner. If you already have a drawing or 3D file, attach it and skip the back-and-forth.

PDF, STEP, IGES, STL, AI, or an image. Max 10 MB.

Add detail (optional, speeds up the quote)
